Johnson Matthey Gas Purification Technology (GPT) Group
Expanding
Support of China's Rapidly Growing Compound Semiconductor Industry
West Chester, PA, July 9, 2007
The Johnson Matthey Gas Purification
Technology (GPT) group, a global leader in the design, manufacture
and distribution of highly reliable bulk and point-of-use purifiers,
is well positioned to continue and expand its support of China's
rapidly growing compound semiconductor industry.
Johnson Matthey has been supplying equipment and technology
to China through its distributor, Gentech International, and
has just sold two more bulk hydrogen purifiers, one to Shanghai
Blue Light Technology Company and another to HC Semitek.
China's compound semiconductor market is one of the fastest
growing in Asia, said Sean Peng, Asian Sales Manager of Gas
Purification for the GPT group. There is a great need for
the best available technology to support this growth and Johnson
Matthey's gas purifiers are state-of-the-art. We anticipate
significant sales growth in China for Johnson Matthey purifiers
and related technology and we appreciate the confidence the
country's compound semiconductor makers have placed in us.
Observers expect China to be a magnet for companies building
fabs, thanks to tax incentives and subsidies. The Semiconductor
Equipment and Materials International (SEMI) association projects
20 new fabs will be operating in China by the end of 2008.
Johnson Matthey is delivering a GPT-30 bulk purifier, capable
of flowing 22.5 Nm3/hr of hydrogen, to Shanghai Blue Light
Technology and a GPT-20 bulk purifier, capable of flowing 15
Nm3/hr of hydrogen, to HC Semitek, Inc. Shanghai Blue Light
manufactures gallium nitride-based blue light epitaxial wafers
and chips, while HC Semitek produces LED epitaxial wafers.
Gentech International is responsible for sales, training and
service throughout China, "We want to be the leading
supplier of gas purification products not only in China, but
also in all of Asia. We have already sold a number of purifiers
in the Pacific Rim and expect sales to grow in other Asian
countries as well as in China, Peng said.
